This residence is a thoughtful exploration of form and experience, utilizing a bold massing strategy that grounds the house in the landscape while elevating living spaces up toward the views. The architecture is a joining of two masses, with the primary living volume appearing to float above a solid base. This composition allows the home to both root itself in the site and reach outward. Where the masses intersect unique forms occur which create interesting experiences out of residual spaces.

A reverse floor plan organizes the home by function and privacy, with the main public spaces—such as the kitchen, living, and dining areas—placed on the uppermost level to maximize natural light and panoramic views. More intimate areas, including private bedrooms and offices, are positioned on the lower levels, offering quiet retreat spaces connected to the site.

The house takes advantage of a sloped infill site, using the terrain to create layered, indoor-outdoor relationships. Primary spaces spill out onto generous decks that extend the interior experience into the landscape. Outdoor spaces are carefully designated to serve different activities: a firepit area supports larger gatherings, while a secluded courtyard off the office offers a space for quiet reflection. These exterior areas aren’t merely leftover space, they are spaces for living.

The arrival experience is choreographed a journey, with the approach and entry sequence unfolding gradually, drawing visitors through a series of defined thresholds. This narrative procession not only highlights the architectural intent but also deepens the sense of arrival, making the act of entering the home feel intentional, spatially rich, and emotionally resonant.  Though the formal entry is a poetic path, there is efficiency in mind for the primary occupants, including the elevator just off the garage, so groceries can go straight to the kitchen. This home is uniquely balanced between experiential and useful, grounded and rising above. The harmonious ideas this house is built from come together to create a home that celebrates life.
